Alternate Absence

Inzending voor de prijsvraag designing absence, een ontwerp voor de ontbrekende tweede toren van de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal van Antwerpen.

proposal: Alternate Absence
Absence during the day but presence at night. In the past there where no towers. Now only a tower and a half exist. But in the future there will be alternating towers: a day tower and a night tower. The existing gothic tower at daylight and an ethereal light tower at night. During the night the day tower will not be flooded with light but clad with darkness. While the sky is illuminated by laser beams pointing to the heavens, forming the lightclad night tower. The towering beams send bibleverses concerning light and darkness coded in morse to the sky or project them on the clouds above Antwerpen. Achieving the paradoxal status of alternate absence and presence of darkness and light.
